Ann brings a wealth of teaching experience with various species including canine, equine and human. As a public school teacher, she is trained in diverse educational methods which gives her a broad repertoire of strategies to enhance learning and behaviour. In her classroom, Ann uses clicker training with her primary students with great results!
Ann has been working with horses and dogs her whole life. No longer an equestrian, she now devotes all her free time to training dogs and pursuing titles from various dog sports. Currently, Agility and Rally are her favourite!
Patient and positive with handler and dog alike, Ann’s training style is to break down tasks into manageable pieces. Ann feels that this ‘scaffolding’ builds a confidence in K9s and their handlers that may be applied to every dog sport. She has a good eye for assessing where the team is and where they need to go next. Ann believes that, while each dog has different needs, all respond to positive step by step instruction.
Ann has worked with large dogs and small. Her first own dog was a soulful Irish Wolfhound followed by an independent Schipperke and a lovely Whippet. Today, Ann lives with two stately English Pointers, an exuberant Australian Cattle Dog, a delightful rescue Papillon and her understanding partner, Colin, who is the official family photographer!
Ann has trained her dogs to success in Obedience, Agility, Rally and Conformation. With her Cattle Dog, Keeper, Ann has trained to the highest level of CKC Obedience earning an Obedience Trial Championship. In Obedience, Keeper placed first in all of Canada for Australian Cattle Dogs in 2008. In 2007 and 2006, Keeper placed third. In addition, Keeper finished his 20th title before his 5th birthday in April 2009!
Ann is honoured by Gaby’s request to help teach in agility classes and to run a Rally Obedience class for Q-Ball. She is delighted to be a part of the the positive teaching team at Q-Ball!
