NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS

Flyball provides an entertaining and active way to interact with one's dog and other dog enthusiasts in an environment that is fun while allowing the dogs exercise and enjoyment. It is an especially effective way to burn off the energy of dogs with a high drive to work, but all dogs regardless of size or breed can play!

Flyball is one of sports in which dogs and people work as a team. Many casual pet owners use their flyball time more as a way to relax and socialize with other dog owners than as a competition, and many champion flyball dogs are essentially pet dogs with a hobby, rather than dedicated sporting or working dogs.

Flyball is run in teams of four dogs, as a relay. The course consists of four jumps and the flyball box. The jump height is determined by the shoulder height of the smallest dog in the team. Generally the jump height is set at about 8 to 10 inches high. Each dog must go over all 4 jumps to get the ball from the box and return its ball all the way across the start line before the next dog crosses the start line to start his run. Teams are run in several divisions determined by the speed that the team can complete a relay run of all 4 dogs on the team. Dogs earn titles and awards based on points earned by their team in racing.

In this class you will learn to teach your dog the foundation exercises that your dog will need to get started in the game of flyball. Your dog will be introduced to the flyball jumps and work on recalls over the line of jumps. You will be given the basics on how to teach your dog a 'swimmers turn' on a flyball box.
